The Altwood is another historic property in Faunsdale, Alabama. It is best noted for being a Tidewater-type cottage, although, initially, it was built as a log dogtrot house. The later expansions and remodeling helped it achieve an excellent architectural style that makes it so remarkable today.

Built in 1836, the Altwood was initially owned by Richard H. Adams. It was originally a log dogtrot house, but later modifications transformed it into something that resembles a Tidewater-type cottage. This makes it one of the rare houses of such design in the state today.

In 1988, the Altwood was moved to the Cedar Crest Farms by the Rankin family. They currently take charge in caring for the home. The house is also a part of the National Register of Historic Places and the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage.
