The Bellingrath Gardens and Home was created by Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bellingrath. In 1932, the site was first opened to the public. After an overwhelming response from placing an ad in the Mobile paper with an announcement that anyone can see the spring garden for free, the couple kept the gardens open throughout the whole year.

The Garden site, sitting on 65 acres of property, boasts of camellias during the winter, azaleas during spring, roses in summer, chrysanthemums in autumn, and during the Holiday season, Magic Christmas in Lights.

The Museum offers self-guided tours where visitors can experience the Bayou Boardwalk, the Mirror Lake, the Great Lawn, Asian-American Gardens, Butterfly Garden, formal garden terraces, and many more.

The Bellingrath Home, on the other hand, features the original furnishings from Mrs. Bellingrath?s collection of arts.
