The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is a large educational center in Birmingham, Alabama focused on the struggles of the American Civil Rights Movement during the 1950s and 60s. It is mostly an interpretive museum and research center that offers visitors an opportunity to get to know more about the great strides that helped make a big change that today’s generation enjoys.

Opened in 1992, the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is nestled right in the heart of the Civil Rights District, the location that saw a lot of action and where tons of important American Civil Rights Movement-related events took place. Its opening was quite a historic feat in itself, with more than 25,000 visitors in its first week of operation.

Today, the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute continues to uphold the very idea and spirit it stands for. It is open every Tuesdays through Sundays.
