Also properly known today as the Visitation Monastery, the Convent and Academy of the Visitation is a historic religious complex in Mobile, Alabama. The structures built in three stages in the 1800s, initially in 1855, then in 1895 and in 1899 to serve as a convent for the Order of the Visitation of Holy Mary under the Roman Catholic Church.

Founded by the first bishop of Mobile, Bishop Michael Portier in 1832, the Convent and Academy of the Visitation pushed through because of the bishop?s concern about the lack of schools for girls in the area. Upon opening, it had 40 students. The original school burned down in 1854, so they immediately built new structures. The buildings were designed in the French Renaissance, Gothic Revival, and Romanesque Revival styles.

By the early 1900s, the Convent and Academy of the Visitation already has a high school and grammar school, which also closed down in 1952. The buildings today mostly serve as a retreat house.
