The Delano Park is a public park in Decatur, Alabama. It is noted for being the oldest park in the city.
The Delano Park was created in 1887, as a way to “reinvent” the city of Decatur, known then as New Decatur. It was a must back around the time, in order to raise up the spirits of the locals as well as pick up the area’s reputation after being ravaged by a Yellow Fever epidemic and the Civil War. It was named after President Franklin Delano Roosevelt was dedicated only in the 1930s, with Roosevelt in attendance.
The Delano Park features a number of attractions, including the Delano Rose Garden, which was completed around 2005 and 2006. It was a restructuring of the former rose garden that was a part of the original Delano plan. There’s also a splash pad that is a large scale map of the state of Alabama.
