First Baptist Church Rating: None

The First Baptist Church is a great historic church in Montgomery, Alabama. It made huge marks in history upon its completion, making it a distinguished historic landmark in the area.

One of the things that made the First Baptist Church is the fact that it was built in 1867, making it one of the first black churches in the area. It served as an alternative to African American churchgoers at the time, helping them become more empowered as they are already presented with an option to not be treated as second rate citizens when attending services at the other First Baptist Church located in Montgomery. It was also one of the largest black churches in the South, with members amassing to thousands just within a few decades of establishment. It also played a huge role in the Civil Rights Movement period during the 1950s and 1960s.

All of these things helped the First Baptist Church land a listing on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage.
