Also known as the Davis House and the Browder Place, the Hawthorne is a historic plantation house in Prairieville, Alabama. It was built in 1818 initially, but was later on enlarged by the Manning family.

By the time that Dr. James Daniel Browder was able to acquire the Hawthorne, the house was already a huge mansion, with more than 30 rooms and a full basement. He down sized the structure again to its current state today with the help of J. W. Tayloe, a local builder who was hired to also serve as an architect for the house. He drew up a design that was inspired by Samuel Sloan’s work in the 1852 publication of ‘The Model Architect’. In the 1950s, the property was purchased by Joe Lee Davis and Ernestine Davis.

Hawthorne is currently a part of the National Register of Historic Places and a designated US Historic District.
