The International Motorsports Hall of Fame is in Talladega, Alabama, located next to the Talladega Superspeedway, 50 miles from Birmingham and 95 miles from Atlanta. It is partitioned into three buildings and interconnected by walkways, with an open area in between. It was founded in 1982 by Bill France, Sr., the founder of NASCAR. Commonly referred to as the ?Canton, Ohio of motorsports,? the International Motorsports Hall of Fame showcases cars that belonged to notable figures in the field, like Richard Petty, Davey and Bobby Allison, Bill Elliott, and Fireball Roberts, to name a few; as well as some memorabilia from other types of racing, including the Budweiser Rocket Car that broke the speed of sound. Most of the cars are in unrestored or user quality. Travel guides suggest allocating an hour for the tour.

The men and women featured in the International Motorsports Hall of Fame have made significant contributions to the evolution of motorsports. One of the requirements for nomination is that the person must be retired from their specialty in motorsports for at least five years, unless approved on special means (age, or worthy of special early induction). A 150-member panel from the American auto racing media then takes a vote. Although many of the inductees are of various nationalities, such as Fangio and Senna, the majority are American drivers who competed in domestic series, such as NASCAR. They are the drivers, riders and pilots who were in the driver?s seat in mankind?s pursuit of new speed limits. They are the designers, engineers and leaders like Henry Ford, Enzo Ferrari and Ferdinand Porsche who built massive automobile empires that shaped the motorsports arena into what it has become today. Their achievements and contribution take center stage in the International Motorsports Hall of Fame, to be celebrated for generations to come.
