The Marietta Johnson Museum is a museum in Fairhope, Alabama. It is mostly a historic museum showcasing the colorful past of the Marietta Johnson School of Organic Education.
The Marietta Johnson School of Organic Education was established in the early 1900s, based on Johnson’s progressive teaching philosophy. She had a mixture of ideas from Nathaniel Oppenheim, Jean Jacques Rosseau, John Dewey, and Friedrich Froebel. So, the school she founded based it curriculum with great concerns and considerations of the various stages of the child’s biological and neurological development. It didn’t employ exams, so children do not have to fail. Grades were based on sincere effort, attendance, and punctuality.
The Marietta Johnson Museum tells of the tale of the progressive school. It features artifacts, literature, and other exhibits that chronicle the school and its founder.
