The Monte Sano State Park is a public park located in Huntsville, Alabama. It is located on top of the eastern Monte Sano Mountain, thus the name, ?Monte Sano? which translates from the Spanish into ?Mountain of Health?.
Monte Sano State Park was established in 1938, but the site has always been a tourist attraction even before it became a part of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Since the mid 1820s, the mountain has been attracting visitors, which eventually led to the formation of the town of Viduta. The site became popular mostly for the beautiful view it provides. The picnic areas, campsites, and hiking trails were just added later on when it opened as a state park.
