Built in 1833, The Old State Bank is Alabama?s oldest bank building. It is one of the structures that withstood the citywide fire that broke out during the Civil War.

Originally, it housed the Tennessee Valley branch of the Bank of the State of Alabama, which did not do well. The structure, aside from fulfilling different functions, survived the different stages of Decatur?s history. It even bears the marks from the battles between Confederate and Union troops.

Today, it has been preserved as a building as it had gained much historical value and architectural significance over the years. Its combination of Federal and Greek Revival style made its design distinct and unique.

Today, The Old State Bank is now a historic landmark within the city that functions as a museum providing people knowledge about the rich history of Alabama.
