The Pope’s Tavern Museum is not only a museum, but a real piece of history. It tells of the city of Florence’s history inside and out, from its structure to its display.
The Pope’s Tavern Museum is originally a commercial establishment. However, when the Civil War broke out, it was transformed from being a tavern and inn into something more useful. The building served as a command center for the Confederate Army and as a hospital for the injured troops as well.
The Pope’s Tavern Museum displays magnificent antiques and artifacts that say a lot about the cultural history of the area. There are also Civil War artifacts on display. The site is also the home of the annual Frontier Day Celebration every June.
