The Salem-Shotwell Covered Bridge is a historic covered span in Opelika, Alabama. It was built in 1900 by Otto Puls, and originally crossed the Wacoochee Creek in the community of Salem. It is the only historic covered span in southeastern Alabama, which pushed locals to restore and renovate it after being destroyed by a severe thunderstorm in 2005.

Measuring 43 feet in length, the Salem-Shotwell Covered Bridge may seem a bit small, but it has still served its community well. It was open to traffic until 1994, when it was closed to motorists after the elements taking too much toll on it.

The Salem-Shotwell Covered Bridge is now located across the Rock Brook in the city of Opelika. Tons of stories surround this structure, so exploring it could be a very great idea especially if you?re in town.
