The Sand Island Light is a historic lighthouse in Mobile Bay, Alabama. It is situated near Dauphin Island, just at the mouth of Mobile Bay.

The Sand Island Light traces its history back to 1838, when the first lighthouse was erected on the site. The said lighthouse was destroyed in 1863, during the Civil War, by the Confederate John W. Glenn. It was rebuilt and lighted again in 1873.

The thing with the Sand Island Light is that it is facing grave threats of destruction, especially since the island is eroding. To stave this off, granite blocks were added to the ground. A good number of stabilization efforts are also being taken. However, it is still listed as one of the most endangered lighthouses in the US, according to the Lighthouse Digest Doomsday List.
