The Shorter Mansion is a historic home in Eufaula, Alabama. It was built in 1884 by Eli Sims Shorter II and wife Wileyna Lamar. This Greek Revival mansion served as the Shorter family’s humble abode where they raised three children.
The Shorter Mansion is also said to have been the home of Alabama’s former governor, John Gill Shorter. Even if there isn’t a lot of information about this, there is no doubt that the mansion served as a social center for Eufaula at a time. It stayed in the family until 1965, when it was acquired by the Eufaula Heritage Association.
The Shorter Mansion is now open to the public and operates as a historic house museum. You may also have seen the house before, since it was featured in the movie ‘Sweet Home Alabama’.
