Like the State Street AME Zion Church, the Stone Street Baptist Church is also an African American church in Mobile, Alabama. The only difference is that it is in the Baptist practice, offering an alternative to locals. It was established way before the Civil War, making it worthy of being declared a historic site.

Built in 1843, the Stone Street Baptist Church?s building started off as an African branch of the Saint Anthony Street Baptist Church. The white members of the said congregation bought the lot where the church stands today, so the African Americans could have their own worship place. The property eventually got transferred fully to the Stone Street Baptist Church after twenty-five years.

Today, the Stone Street Baptist Church is a part of the National Register of Historic Places and the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage.
