Built in 1859, the Tannehill Ironworks is a historic location in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. It is best noted for being a major supplier of iron for the Confederate Army.

The Tannehill Ironworks is basically a series of ruins today. This is a result of the damages it has incurred when the US 8th Iowa Cavalry forces attacked the site in March 31, 1965, known as the Wilson’s Raid. The site was burned down by three companies, rendering the very location which used to produce up to 22 tons of pig iron a day useless.

The Tannehill Ironworks is currently featured in the Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park. It is dubbed as one of the South’s best preserved 19th century iron furnace sites.
