The Theatre Tuscaloosa was built in 1972 and evolved into one of the state?s premier theatre companies. The mission of the theatre is to elevate the consciousness theatre in the greater Tuscaloosa community by providing quality theatre opportunities to those people who are interested in live theatre and contributing to the cultural education, entertainment and enrichment of the community through attending live theatre.

The theatre was built by a musical group called the Tuscaloosa Community Players - a small company that performed in several venues available during the early 70?s until they found a temporary stage at the Bama theatre. The performance group finally found a permanent home at the Shelton State Community College in 1998 and was provided by the Bean-Brown theatre a state of the art venue with 450 person seating capacity.

The Theatre Tuscaloosa gives opportunities to those people who loves to perform in theatres. Workshops and theatre camps are offered to those who are interested to visit the company. Aside from that, the theatre company offer several workshops and lessons such as storybook theatre, stage movement, musical theatre and stage combat.

Also, the theatre company offers workshops for children by implementing a theatre camp to improve the stage movement and acting by novice and experienced child/adult actor alike.
