The Wesleyan Hall is a historic building in Florence, Alabama inside the University of North Alabama campus. It was built in 1856, making it one of the oldest structures in the university campus. It is also known as one of the most prominent landmarks in North Alabama.
Designed by Zebulon Pike Morrison, the Wesleyan Hall sports a Gothic Revival style of architecture. It was built when the University of North Alabama was still called the LaGrange College, a Methodist institution which was later renamed again as the Florence Wesleyan University. During the Civil War, the building was used by both Union and Confederate troops.
Shortly after the war, the university closed down, but turned the Wesleyan Hall to the state of Alabama. This became the start of the University of North Alabama, which started its roots as a state normal school and now blossomed into the state?s largest public university.
