The Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge is a habitat/species management area in Decatur, Alabama. It is located along the Tennessee River and was established in 1938 to provide a natural habitat for migrating birds in the eastern regions of the US.

Composed of 35,000 acres worth of land, the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge was named after Major General Joseph Wheeler, a noted Confederate officer that served in various wars and as a United States Representative from 1882 to 1900. The site is in charge of several other National Wildlife Refuges.

The Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge also hosts several annual events like the Federal Junior Duck Stamp Contest, the Youth Fishing Rodeo, the FAWN Festival, the Wheeler Day Camps, Wet and Wild Festival, Southern Wildlife Festival, and the United Way?s Day of Caring Fishing Rodeo.
