In line with the annual celebration that commemorates the return of the wild Salmon to the Copper River, the Alaska Salmon Runs is held in Cordova, Alaska as a part of the Copper River Wild Salmon Festival. The idea behind the event ties up healthy living with the current celebrations.

Started in 1986 by Irene Webber, the Alaska Salmon Runs quickly became a big event in the following years. It may have started small, with only Webber running on the initial event, but people caught up later on, giving birth and further establishing the king salmon marathon.

The great thing about the Alaska Salmon Runs is that you can enjoy the spectacular scenery while running around. There are also some occasions where runners could encounter moose and bear, but be assured that there are safety precautions in place.
