The Brooks River Archaeological District is best known to be a highly significant historic site, being one of the best preserved sites with spots dating back to 2500 BC up to the historic era. Located by the river and ancient beach ridge, the site has yielded a great amount of historical pieces and artifacts that helped experts understand the area more.

Declared as a National Historic Landmark in 1993, the Brooks River Archaeological District is deemed significant and is still expected to be continuously significant in the future. This is mostly because of the number of the Arctic Small Tool tradition artifacts found on the site, tying the area to the part of history when many technologies and innovations entered the area.
