Fort Durham traces its history back to the Hudson?s Bay Company, being its builder in 1840, as one of its posts in the Russian America.

The Fort Durham is a resort to the agreement of the Russian American Company and the HBC. The deal was in answer to HBC?s attempts to establish posts in the area, so they can trade furs and hunt along the coast as well.
Under certain points, the HBC agreed with Russian America, so the fort, also known as Fort Taku was built, but it was also closed down immediately in 1843.

Currently, the Fort Durham is an archaeological site legally known as the AHRS Site JUN 036. It is also a declared National Historic Landmark.
