Founded in 1994, the Great Alaska Beer and Barley Wine Festival was initially called as the Great Alaska Microbewery Invitation. It was a successful event and was greatly received by the locals. It only got its current name in the year 2000, when barley wine became available.

Today, the Great Alaska Beer and Barley Wine Festival is still a popular event in the region. It continues to attract visitors, so if you want to be a part of it, drop by Anchorage around the month of January yearly.
