The Iceworm Festival is an annual event in Cordova, Alaska. It was created in 1961 as a way to give the locals a break from the bleak long winter, which can only take the people?s spirits down too much.

The celebration, named after a species that is kind of unique in Alaska, being only found here as well as three other glaciated regions in the world, is also kind of a celebration of the state?s uniqueness and identity. It is held for a week with a series of events including the Miss Iceworm Pageant, Survival Suit Race, the Arts & Crafts Show, the Iceworm Tail Hunt, parades, and food fair just to name a few.

The Iceworm Festival is celebrated annually around the month of February.
