The Independence Mine State Historical Park is more than just a simple attraction. It is considered to be a gold mine. Gold has played a very important role in the entire history of Alaska. It was then the magnet that invited a lot of visitors to the place. This former gold mine then became a historical park and it is situated in the tundra of the area of Hatcher Pass. When you get to visit the place, you can expect to learn a lot of things like how it is to work and live in the oldest gold mine camps of the state.

You can begin your tour right at the Mine Manger?s House where you can get to see the museum and visitor center part of the park. You can also expect to see a lot of displays that talk about mining, some natural history of the place, and of course, along with the story behind the Independence. You can also take a self-tour and get to interpret things that you would learn throughout the entire mine camp.
