The Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival is an annual event in Homer, Alaska. It celebrates the rich shorebird wildlife of the Kachemak Bay, which is a designated wilderness area and state park as well.

The Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival started in 1993, when a group of Homer locals decided to form an alliance and cook up an event that will uphold the local environmental and cultural value of the area as well as attract tourists and visitors at the same time. They established the festival, which proved excellent as it also helped educate the public about the shorebirds and the wetlands.

Celebrated yearly during the month of May, the Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival is one great event to be a part of, especially if you?re interested in what it celebrates and commemorates.
