The Sitka Historical Society and Museum is touted as the only museum in town to have the elements of the entire local history. Unlike other museums in the area, this one presents all the periods in the local history, from its Native Alaskan (Tlingit), Russian, and American periods.

The main highlight of the Sitka Historical Society and Museum is the 1867 scale model of Sitka. The year is quite memorable as it is the time when Alaska was transferred to the US from Russia. The model, alongside the other historic displays and exhibits in the site, provide tons of information about the life at Sitka, Alaska.

You can also find a gift shop at the Sitka Historical Society and Museum. This one is packed with attractive souvenirs like historic books, local artworks, and even handmade wooden Russian Matryoshka nesting dolls.
