The Tongass Historical Museum may be a small museum in Ketchikan, Alaska, but it has gained tons of great reviews over the years. It features a lot of information about the First City of Alaska, as well as its region. Amazingly, it manages to maintain a permanent exhibit, as well as a couple of seasonal ones.
Founded in 1961 by the Tongass Historical Society, the Tongass Historical Museum is now a part of the City of Ketchikan Museum Department. It features a wide array of displays showing visitors the rich past and history of the area through artifacts and memorabilia. Its permanent exhibit shows a good number of Native artifacts.
The Tongass Historical Museum is housed in the same building as the Ketchikan Public Library, so a trip here could even give you more activities that what you have initially expected.
