The Kartchner Caverns State Park is a state park in Benson, Arizona intended to preserve and showcase a limestone cave still in its pristine condition since found in 1974.

The comparatively recent exploration of the caves in Kartchner Caverns State Park has meant that they are one of the best preserved and unmolested limestone cave systems in the country. Its discovery in 1974 was made by amateur spelunkers Gary Tenen, and Randy Tufts. The discoverers kept the location of the caverns a secret and they only told the owners in 1978. With the cooperation of the land owners they decided that the best way to prevent vandalism and protect the cave system was to appraoach the Arizona State Parks and in 1985, the group gave Governor Bruce Babbit a tour of the caverns. The discovery of the cave was made public in 1988 after the land was sold to the state for development into a state park.
