The Sonoita Creek Natural Area is a state natural preserve and environmental education area featuring a significant portion of the Sonoita Creek and Coal Mine Spring Watersheds in Patagonia, Arizona.

Considered a unique geographic and ecological location, the Sonoita Creek State Natural Area features seven distinct natural vegetative communities in relatively small area. These communities range from semi-desert grasslands to riparian deciduous forest. This phenomenon is extremely rare and cannot be found anywhere else in the region. The natural area is also a transitional zone between the Sonoran and the Chihuahuan Deserts and keen wildlife viewers will observe representative species from each desert within the boundaries of the natural area.

The natural area has no restrooms or camping facilities, visitors are advised to base their visit from the Patagonia Lake State Park for safety and convenience.
