Located along the banks of the Verde River, the Verde River Greenway State Natural Area is a state natural preserve covering about 480 acres of riparian greenway, natural vegetation, and a large regional wildlife population.

The Verde River is an important water resource in Arizona as it is one of the last free flowing rivers of the desert area that can sustain healthy ecosystems and natural communities. The Verde River Greenway preserve about a six mile long stretch of this unique habitat and greenery in its natural state. The preserve is located at an altitude of about 3,300 feet from sea level and as such has a mild temperature that is conducive to hiking, picnicking, fishing, and other activities in the park.

Because the natural area is maintained in its natural state, there are no restrooms or modern camping facilities in the area.
