The Boone County Historical Museum provides the residents of the area and its visitors, together with the Boon County Historical Society, a place to view and enjoy artifacts and objects of local historical interest.

It started with the formation of the Boon County Historical & Genealogical Society that aims to gather, preserve, and record the early history of the county and the people living in it. At first, it began its publication that shares stories, pictures, events, and other information related to the area?s history. They had already thought of establishing a museum when external events took place, enabling them to do so. The Missouri and Arkansas Railroad Museum?s assets were given to the Historical Society because the former was looking for a group that can keep its museum functioning. The Boone Historical Society was permitted to occupy the old Harrison High School and after a series of refurbishing and cleaning, the Boone County Heritage Museum was established.

Today, it is able to provide the residents and visitors access to its Genealogy Collections, Mountain Meadows Massacre Collection, 1912 Harrison High School Building Collection, and many more. The Museum also features a War Room, Records Room, Medical Room, the JoAnn Forrest Genealogy-Meeting Room, and other areas where its collections are showcased.
