The Botanical Garden of the Ozarks has a very interesting story to it. Not like many public gardens, the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks was formed through efforts of dedicated volunteers. The garden was formed in January of 1994 as a non-profitable organization. The founder of the Botanical Garden of Ozarks, Donna Porter worked tirelessly to make her vision come true, helping on a volunteer basis from 1993 until 1997. Her position as Director commenced in 1997 through a grant by the Stanley Smith Horticultural Trust and continued until her departure in December of 2011.

Donna Porter?s efforts contributed to the origination and promotion of the vision of a Botanical Garden for Northwest Arkansas, the construction and progress of the non-profitable organization, site search, site acquisition through the signing of a 25 year land-lease terms with the City of Fayetteville for 100 acres of city property on the south shore of Fayetteville Lake and the beginning and accomplishment of the Master Plan for the Botanical Garden of Ozarks with the assistance of The Portico Group, Public Garden Design Specialists of Seattle, Washington.

The garden is ideal to special events like weddings, birthday parties and meetings. It is open to the public seven days a week from 9am to 5pm.
