There is one state park in Arkansas that is literally a treasure waiting to be discovered ?the Crater of Diamonds State Park.

The Crater of Diamonds State Park is the only diamond-bearing site in the United States and the world to be open to the public. People flock here to test their lucks on finding the eponymous diamond stones, as well as other semi-precious gems such as agate, jasper, amethyst, garnet, calcite, and quartz. These gemstones and minerals can be found along the park 911-acre grounds. The park sits atop an eroded lamproite volcanic pipe.

The park is open all year to the public. The park?s main attraction is definitely drawing thousands of visitors, particularly ?rockhounds? and fortune-seekers. For a small fee, anyone can dig for diamond and other stones inside the park. Approximately 29,000 diamond have already been dug from the park since its creation in 1972. Aside from allowing visitors to find their luck buried in the ground, the park also offers standard recreational activities such as camping, picnicking, hiking, biking, and enjoying at the Diamond Springs water playground.
