Millwood Lake State Park, a reservoir in the southwestern part of the state, marks the damming of the meeting points of little River and Saline River. It is renowned for its picturesque view and fishing. The Millwood Lake project was conceptualized and designed by the Tulsa District of the Army Corps of Engineers, who later built it. They are the administrative body that maintains the lake?s Beard?s Bluff recreation center. In 1961 the construction began and was finished in 1966 incurring expenses that amounted to $44,000,000. The main purpose of the lake was for flood control operation. The lake has served a couple of other benefits. Wildlife has been greatly restored and water is being provided for in the nearby areas. Millwood Lake offers a series of boat lanes for the fishers. Anglers have a great time crappie fishing in the winter and bream and catfish fishing during summer. This is also a favorite spot for bird watchers. The lake offers a variety of inhabitants all year round. Campsites, picnic areas, a pavilion, nature and bicycle trail are scattered in the site. Souvenirs, bait, grocery items, gift suggestions, and gas are sold at the marina. Visit the lake, you?ll enjoy it!
