Situated near the Missouri border, but still inside the area of Arkansas, the Pea Ridge National Military Park was built to protect the Battle of Pea Ridge site, which has historical significance for playing a part in the American Civil War. The said event was helpful in winning the border state of Missouri.

The Pea Ridge National Military Park measures a total of 4300 acres. It was created in 1956 and declared as a national park in 1963. It is also notable for being a breakthrough case in Civil War battlefield preservation, surpassing the NPS limit of just 1 acre preservation.

Considered as one of the few excellently preserved Civil War battlefields in the country, the Pea Ridge National Military Park features the restored battlefields, hiking trails, a driving tour, museum, a visitors? center, and some portion of the Trail of Tears.
