Flinders Street Station is Melbourne?s central railway terminal. It is also a cultural icon of the city, making it a definite landmark to see for visitors.
The construction of this railway station wasn?t a very quick one. The plans started in 1882, and it only opened in 1910. However, by 1926, it has already become the busiest passenger station in the world. Refurbishments were done through the years, and the last upgrades were installed in 2007.
Aside from the station itself, the clocks and the entry steps are also popularly known among locals. Shops, offices, retail stores, and other community facilities can also be found inside Flinders Street Station, giving it a more holistic and welcoming feel.
Today, Flinders Street Station sees up to 85,000 passengers and 1,500 trains daily.
