The Powerhouse Museum is a public museum located in Ultimo under the operation of the State Government. Home to more than 500,000 collections, the museum tells Australia?s culture and history. Its wide array of displays varies from science, environment, technology, culture, history, politics, arts, music, space exploration and industry. These priceless collections provide glimpse and insights to everyone about the struggle and development of Australia in the hands of colonies until it regains it self-governing power today.

The museum was started during one exhibit in 1879 at Sydney?s Garden Palace wherein international displays of different achievements of colonies were exhibited. However, on that same year, a fire destroyed almost all these collections. Few of these priceless pieces became more historical and valuable today as it is considered now as genesis of all the displays in the galleries. After this tragedy, the museum was transferred to several different sites until it was able to secure its present place in Ultimo way back 1899. When the Sydney electric tram system abandoned the building, it was remodelled and renovated into a powerhouse gallery which today is marked as one of the most treasured building of Australia?s people.

The Power House Museum has three main parts which are the Sydney Observatory, Power House Discovery Centre, and the NSW Migration Heritage Centre. The Sydney Obervatory offers astronomical exhibits which are also interactive to museum goers while the Powerhouse Discovery Centre offers an ecstatic view from the museum because it is located in Castle Hill. The NSW Migration Heritage Centre offers program and projects to record migration history and legacy in Australia. It also offers different museum education services such tour, form, workshops, and presentations which made every collection more interactive. These activities can be adapted from preparatory stage up to tertiary level of education.
