The Purnululu National Park is home to the Bungle Bungle Ranges. Generally, these land formations can be best described as beehive-shaped dome towers in stunning red Devonian quartz sandstones formed by the wind from the Tanami Desert and rainfall over the past million years. Some experts also believe that one area in the ranges could have been an impact site of an ancient meteorite hitting the planet.

Aside from the Bungle Bungle Ranges, the Purnululu National Park is also home to the Ord River, the Osmand Range, and some limestone ridges. Most of the land formations in the area age hundreds of millions of years, according to experts.

The roads to this World Heritage Site can be quite difficult, but visitors can also opt for air travel to get to Purnululu National Park.
