The Gemtree is a locally owned business of Cameron and Carmel Chalmers, which is located in Northeast of Alice Springs. It is the gateway to the olden gem fields of Central Australia. Gemtree affords its visitors an exciting experience of digging your own gems that are hidden million years ago. It is a perfect way of spending time with family and friends along with the tours that they offer. The Zircon fossicking and tag-along tours allow anyone to look for renowned Mud Tank Zircons and red garnets. These tours will include hiring of equipment that will serve as a guide to show visitors where and how to mine successfully.

Situated right at the Gemtree Caravan Park is the Garnet Gully. This is a perfect place for children who want to engage in fun activities during school holidays. This activity allows filling of bucket and sieving to look for gems, crystals and a variety of Harts Range minerals. Although gem quality stones are not found here, there are still abundant interesting specimens that are great to collect.

Instead of going out to the gem fields to experience fossicking, buying a bucket is ideal for those who came in the place with limited time. The bucket contains treasures that can be sorted and appraised. Visitors can also enjoy the natural bush setting that the Gemtree has. The Gem room and gallery offer a wide range of gems, crystals, mineral specimens and jewelries. There will also be a close encounter with the Aboriginal artifacts as you visit the place. You can purchase any of these items as a souvenir or you may want to take the chance of finding your own gems from one of the guided mining tours.
