This majestic hotel is one of the shining examples of the National Park Service ?Rustic? style of architecture, or more popularly known as ?parkitecture?. The Ahwahnee Hotel is a destination lodging located in the heart of the United States premier national park, the Yosemite National Park in California.

This historic hotel was constructed on August 1, 1926 and opened to the public on July 1927. Intended as a destination hotel, this building became the park?s centerpiece. It was made of stone, wood, glass, and concrete and assembled to produce one of the biggest hotels that employ the Rustic architectural style. The Ahwahnee Hotel boasts a 150,000 square feet of living space in its trademark Y-shaped floor plan, which contains 99 rooms, parlors and suites, with each bearing touches of Native American elements. Another 24 cottages was added to accommodate the hundreds of visitors who flock here to enjoy the historic hotel, as well as the beautiful outdoors of the Yosemite National Park.

The Ahwahnee Hotel was declared a National Historic Landmark on May 28, 1987.
