The Bale Grist Mill State Historic Park is a historic area turned into a state park in St. Helena, California. It is a pretty small state park with less than an acre of area but it is rich in local history.
Tracing its roots back to 1846 when the land was awarded to Dr. Edward Turner Bale, a noted English immigrant physician, by the Mexican government. He built the grist mill and operated it until his death three years later. It continued operating until the early 1900s despite changing ownership a couple of times. The Bale Grist Mill State Historic Park was restored in the 1960s and 70s by descendants of the original owners of the mill.
Today, visitors can enjoy the Bale Grist Mill State Historic Park and its rich history and natural setting.
