Built in 1947, the shoe-shaped building in Bakersfield, California has always been successful in leaving tourists or passersby in awe. The building is 30-feet, long and 20-feet high with black lace and a white low top roof as well as a thick orthopedic heel. Since then, the shoe-shaped building served as Deschwanden?s Shoe Repair Shop.

When the owner died in 1992 and the building is no longer a shoe repair shop, visitors would still see the unclaimed shoes displayed on the windows. The building remained intact except for the entrance door that is damaged when a car collided against it in 1997. But the owner?s family was able to make the building alive again, and so in 2003, the shoe-shaped building is once again a shoe repair shop, only with a new name ? Big Shoe Repair.

The Big Shoe Repair building is unique on its own self because it is the only shoe-shaped shoe repair shop in the country with an actual lace which is a 50-feet long black rope.
