Bob’s Big Boy Restaurant in Burbank, California was given the honor of being a “State Point of Historical Interest” in 1993 by being the oldest and the only Bob’s restaurant left in the United States. It was originally constructed in 1949 by Ward Albert and Scott MacDonald and designed by well-known architect Wayne McAllister. The architectural style used was a combination of modernism and a 1950’s California café style, wherein they used low and extended horizontal roof lines and large canopies. Aside from its true-blue Californian façade that was restored and currently maintained by its new owners, the seventy feet high Bob’s neon sign is an authentic landmark for the neighboring community. When the iconic pink and white sign is lit up at night, the restaurant becomes an irresistible lure to passersby and motorists alike.
