The ?big trees? in the Calaveras Big Trees State Park is already a very big clue on what you can expect inside this park in Calaveras County in California.

Gigantic trees ? they are everywhere. The park?s resident Giant Sequoias are the biggest trees in the world, reaching up to 280 feet in height and 26 feet in diameter. The park has been attracting millions of visitors since 1852. The grove came into prominence in 1850, when some promoter chopped down the ?Discovery Tree? and took it on a tour. The stump where the tree once stood ? located in the North Grove ? is now part of the forest park?s attraction.

The South Grove area of the park contains another towering landmark, the ?Agassiz? tree, the largest tree in the grove. Aside from tree watching, tourists can also set camps at the park?s camping grounds. Other visitor activities include picnic, hiking, biking, and bird watching.
