The Carmel River State Beach is a state beach and park in Carmel, California. It contains the Carmel River Lagoon and Wetlands Natural Reserve. It is also home to the Monastery Beach (a.k.a. San Jose Creek Beach) that is popular among scuba divers.
The Carmel River State Beach features a mile-long beach with a lagoon that is formed by the Carmel River. The lagoon attracts numerous migratory birds, which is why a nature reserve was set up to protect the area. The site is also a popular stop on the Central Coast Birding Trail, attracting birders from all over the country every fall and winter.
Aside from these, the Carmel River State Beach is also popular among kayakers, fishers, and hikers.
