The Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park is a historic area and state park in Earlimart, California. It celebrates and preserves the only town in the state that was founded, governed, and financed by African Americans.
Allenworth was created in 1908 as a dream community by Lt. Colonel Allen Allensworth and several other settlers. They aimed for it to allow inhabitants to create better lives for themselves, making it unique and even ideal. Sadly, the conditions hindered this dream from coming true, causing the demise of the town.
In 1974, the state acquired the historical townsite and started transforming it into the Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park. Visitors can stroll through the park and learn more about the story of the town.
