The Filoli is dedicates itself to the preservation interpretation and protection of the cultural traditions and natural history of the country to educate and give entertainment to the public. The gardens of Filoli offers everyone a chance to get to know about its well known gardening practices and to simply take entertainment on this beautiful and diverse environment of the garden offers.

The Filol Nature Preserve stands on most of the land beyond the house, garden, orchard and parking area. It is a very ideal location for nature education which offers different aspects of the ecosystem in just a portion of the area consisting forests, chaparral, redwood stands, riparian, ponds and grasslands.

The lower portion of the Filoli is only accessible through a guided nature hikes on a network of trails and historical roads and the area also keeps a variety of plants and animals. The area also contains historic sites such as the Bourn family cemetery and the old barns which have already been converted to a nature museum.
