The establishment of the Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park was initiated by the area?s original owner, Owen R. Cheatham, who is also the founder of Georgia-Pacific Corporation. He donated the land to the state in an effort to preserve the stand of redwoods in the site. The redwoods now compose the very heart of this small park.
